HISTORY

South American Express was founded in Bolivia in May, 1985, the year in which we launched 13 generic products from Laboratorios Chile on the market. In that same year, when Bolivia was experiencing one of the worst economic crises in its history, SAE obtained a total sales of 13,000 units.

Currently, we have 277 products incorporated in the Bolivian pharmaceutical market, reaching the figure of 1,223,466 units sold annually, which represents 5% average growth over the past five years and situated in 5 th place in values and 3 rd place in total units sold in the pharmaceutical market. In 1997, we introduced Over the Counter products (O.T.C.) of Laboratorios Maver from Chile and reached sales of 26,000 units in the first year. Today, we achieve annual sales of 215,586 units which places us in 22 nd place in values and 25 th place in total units sold in the Bolivian pharmaceutical market. (according to IMS)

In February, 2000, we obtained the representation of the oral hygiene products of Foramen Laboratories from Spain . Today, we place 286,987 units annually on the market, having obtained an average growth of 12% in the last five years. We are now one of the principal oral hygiene lines in Bolivia .

In October of the same year, we obtained the representation of Colgate for their toothbrushes and medicated pastes. Today, we achieve annual sales of 296,944 units annually, an average growth of 19% in the last five years.

In the year 2001, SAE S.A consolidated the objective of creating its own line of products. The production of these products has been entrusted to prestigious laboratories in India , Spain and Chile . At present, our own brands reach annual sales of 246,576 units, with an average growth of 86% in the last five years which puts us in 7th place in values and 18th place in units sold in the Bolivian pharmaceutical market.
